SHSM Workshops
High schools with Specialist High Skills Major (SHSM) programs in the field of fitness, health and wellness can now take advantage of the unique and exciting opportunity for their students, to participate in a fitness assessment Workshop done at our facility, the Speed Training Centre!
We provide 2 different Workshops, with a focus on both the theoretical, as well as practical aspects of fitness assessments, which has always been one of our areas of expertise at Speed Training:
1. High Performance Fitness Assessments
Students participating in the Speed Training SHSM High Performance Fitness Assessment Workshop will receive a theoretical classroom lecture, and participate in/conduct the following practical high performance fitness assessments:
- Optojump Vertical Jump Tests
- Height, Sitting Height, Weight, Body Mass Index (BMI) and Peak Height Velocity (PHV)
- Linear Speed Tests (10/20/35 Metres)
- Aerobic Endurance (Yo-Yo Endurance Test Level 1)
A True or False Quiz will conclude the Workshop. An assessment report will be given to students upon completion of the Workshop.
2. Medical Fitness Assessments
Students participating in the Speed Training SHSM Medical Fitness Assessment Workshop will receive a theoretical classroom lecture, and participate in/conduct the following practical medical related fitness assessments and risk factor screens:
- Height, Sitting Height, Weight, Body Mass Index (BMI), % Body Fat, Peak Height Velocity (PHV)
- Resting Heart Rate / Karvonen Age-Predicted Training Heart Rate
- Functional Movement Screen
- Ross Submaximal Treadmill Test
A True or False Quiz will conclude the Workshop. An assessment report will be given to students upon completion of the Workshop.
